The European Liaison Council
The IMAPS Europe Board – the European Liaison Council (ELC) meets periodically face-to-face, by web and by email, to deal with the business of IMAPS Europe. The recent meeting of the ELC preceded the 22nd European Microelectronics Conference (EMPC 2019) in Pisa, Italy. The IMAPS Europe statute has now been updated and re-registered in Germany. The ELC had the pleasure of welcoming IMAPS Romania and its President Prof. Paul Svasta into the IMAPS Europe family of European Chapters. The ELC also approved progress towards EMPC 2021 to be held in Gothenburg in September 2021 and the preliminary investigations of venues for EMPC 2023 to be held in the UK, each organised by the home Chapter.
We were in Pisa, of course, to participate in EMPC 2019. Its Executive Chair Dr. Luigi Calligarich reported a strong attendance of about 380 registered delegates, with the larger proportion attending the technical conference, and others visiting the range of technical exhibitors representing 50 companies. The Technical Chair Prof. Nihal Sinnadurai described the technical content as superb comprising 112 technical papers presented orally in 32 poster presentations and 80 slide lectures plus 6 eminent keynotes. The Professional Development Courses were also well attended with 31 participants.
With many thanks to the outgoing president Prof. Malgorzata Jakubowska, the ELC welcomed the incoming IMAPS Europe President Dr. Luigi Calligarich.
